“I knew that there was never anyone in the world for me but Desi and that we might have our ups and downs, just as many people have. But I’d rather quarrel and make up with him than with anyone else in this world.” —Lucille Ball

The first time I saw you, my head just about reached the top of my parent’s television stand. You were honestly the first man I had ever laid eyes on because you captivated me with your everything. You were and always will be more than I Love Lucy, and for that I am grateful as I can spend the rest of my life learning about the person you were, and the person you remain today in the hearts of all your biggest fans. Still, you always have and you always will hold a very special place in my heart for being part of the best television magic I will ever experience in my life. From such a young age I took to your presence. It was your entrance. It was your accent. It was your rhythm. It was you, you wonderful you. And nothing will ever change that. Thank you for putting an extra beat in my heart.
Happy Birthday, Desi.
-Sabrina
That was beautiful, wonderfully written. I regret being late on this, but Happy belated Birthday, Desi. You’re greatly missed, but will never be forgotten.
♥ Saturday, March 3rd, 2012 @ 04:20 AMIn 1986, Desi Arnaz died of Lung Cancer in his Del Mar home, which he had received in the divorce decree 27 years earlier. Director William Asher shared a story with Palm Springs Life that best illustrates the heart and soul of the union between the famous comedienne and her hot-blooded Cuban lover.
“She visited him in Del Mar a week before he died,” Asher reveals. “By this time his ailments included emphysemia and the colostomy he’d had for a couple of years. Desi was out of it, disoriented. When it came time for Lucy to leave, Desi said, ‘Where are you going?’ ‘I’m going home’, Lucy responded. ‘You are home’, Desi said. So, Lucy stayed a while longer.”
“Lucy told me this at Desi’s funeral in Del Mar,” says Asher. “They had a love that was lasting in spite of their differences.”
“You are home.”
Excuse me while I go sob.
♥ Friday, March 2nd, 2012 @ 01:56 AMI Love Lucy | #173 Lucy Does the Tango | Season 6, Episode 19
Lucy finds herself with egg on her face and elsewhere, when she and Ethel try to forestall Ricky’s pulling out of the heretofore money losing egg business.
Love this (and every other) episode! What really gets me is when Lucy adjusts her stance, acting all casual like nothing’s wrong, hahahaha! Oh, Lucy! ;)
Fun facts:
• The climax of this scene provoked the longest laugh from a studio audience in television (as well as the show’s) history—65 seconds! The recording was so long, the sound editor had to cut it in half.
• This scene was not rehearsed. Lucy wanted it to be spontaneous.
• The eggs in Lucy’s shirt and Ethel’s back pants pockets were real!
